About the manufacturer:
Harry Willich founded the cheese factory in 1974. The business is now run by the next generation and has become one of the largest producers in Holland for Gauda and other local cheeses. The brand is known all over the world, with exports to 30 countries. The cheeses have won numerous international awards.
About the product:
Gauda is pronounced ‘how-da’. It is named after a town by the same name in western Holland. This is one of the most well-known cheeses throughout the world. Only cheese made with pure cow’s milk with no additives with a fat content of 50% (dry matter) is allowed to be called Gauda. Other cheeses would just be called Dutch cheeses.
When served:
Fresh Gauda is excellent in sandwiches and toasts. It works great in all quiches and as a thickener for soups. It can be combined with other kinds of cheese for pasta sauces, for creaming potatoes or for enriching an omelet. Young Gauda will go well with dry white wines. As it ages it is better suit for heavier red wines.
