About the Manufacturer
The Elle & Vire factory was established in 1945 in the Normandie region between the Elle and Vire lakes. It continues to use the milk from hundreds of farms in the area for its products.
It’s the second largest producer in France of butter and cream products . Their secret for excellency is simple: use the best raw materials – the finest milk.
About the Butter
Elle & Vire butter is made from 100% Normandie milk. Most of their butter products are 82% fat, 16% water and 2% milk solids and minerals, and salt (in some varieties).
We import two types of butter for home use; a regular butter called Normandie – wrapped in aluminum foil and intended mainly for cooking and baking; and a second, softer type, intended for spreading. The cooking butter comes in packages of 200 and 250 grams, while the spreadable butter is in 250gr plastic containers.
When Served
Butter has always been an inseparable part of elite kitchens throughout the world. Its rich flavor gives dishes a depth and fullness which is hard to achieve otherwise. Beyond its use as a fat for cooking, butter serves a crucial role in binding and accentuating flavors. French cuisine, admired the world over, is based on the use of butter. Beyond being an important basic ingredient, it serves as a base for sauces in countless dishes. Sometimes it is simply melted and drizzled over a dish, other times it is used as the main ingredient in a more complex sauce accompanying French dishes, such as: from Beurre blanc, a sauce based on shallots, white wine, butter and vinegar, to a nuttier flavored butter, slightly roasted and used to season fish dishes.
